This turmeric grows nowhere else in the world except in tiny Lakadong village and its surrounding areas in Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, in North eastern India - That's why it is called Lakadong turmeric.

Turmeric

A golden spice, as far as documented evidence, it is used daily in India for at least 6000 years as a medicine, beauty aid, cooking spice, a dye and a lot more. However, it is modern science which has made it possible for millions to get the health benefits from turmeric’s unique compounds.

Curcumin

Turmeric's (Curcuma longa) effects on health are generally centred upon an orange-yellow coloured (hue), lipophilic polyphenol substance called "curcumin," which is acquired from the rhizomes of the herb. It is the principal curcuminoid of turmeric (Curcuma longa). Furthermore, Curcumin is a highly potent bioactive compound in turmeric.

No wonder turmeric is among the most researched plants in the world, resulting in a huge wealth of information now being available about its therapeutic potential and efficacy against human diseases.

The internet is full of reports about the medicinal properties of curcumin. PubMed, a service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, lists more than 15,325 published research papers on Curcumin. Of these, researched papers on curcumin and cancer prevention alone is more than 1380*! (*as of July 2020)

Research findings say that turmeric exerts curative effects on about 581 diseases. Curcumin alone has a curative impact on over 560 diseases. However, to get the maximum benefit you need to consume it in quantities somewhat like this:

  • Powdered form - ¼ to 1 teaspoon per day, or

  • Turmeric slices – 3 to 6 grams per day, or

  • Curcumin extracts or tablets – 1000 to1500 mg per day (for adults).

To reap all benefits, you must obtain that kind of turmeric that contains those desired levels of ingredients, especially curcumin. Levels of curcumin vary with different species and growth regions. Most turmeric plants yield an average of 2%, or less, curcumin per 100 grams.
